Resources on Plagiarism
Plagiarism can end your academic career; it's that simple. And it doesn't matter if it's your first college essay, or your hundred-and-first. Most professors take plagiarism very seriously, and I am most certainly among them. Some plagiarism is intentional, and there are any number of reasons why students (and professional academics, too) might choose to plagiarize. But other cases of plagiarism aren't so clear cut. You can plagiarize without knowing it, and many do, but that doesn't reduce your responsibility. Ultimately, knowing what constitutes plagiarism is your responsibility, and "I didn't know" simply isn't an excuse. Below are some terrific resources on plagiarism. When not knowing can mean failing a course, suspension, or expulsion, it's worth taking the time to know:
